Who is a Candidate for Botox?

If you’re interested in Botox in Upper East Side, you may be wondering if you’re a good candidate. To receive Botox treatment, you must be at least 18 years old and be in generally good health. Individuals who would like to receive this treatment will also need to discontinue blood thinners, muscle relaxers, and any additional medications that might interact with the injection. Dr. Reitzen will determine if you are an ideal candidate.

How Does Botox Work?

Botox, Dysport®, and other neuromodulators are great tools to rejuvenate the upper face. They are especially helpful for the reduction of forehead lines, “11” lines between the eyebrows, and crow’s feet (lines next to the eyes). The neuromodulators work to decrease movement of the region to prevent the lines from forming.

Botox specifically treats dynamic wrinkles, which are wrinkles on the face that are caused by years of facial expressions. The treatment contains botulinum toxin, which is produced by the bacterium clostridium botulinum. When injected into facial wrinkles, Botox blocks the nerve signals that are causing the muscles to contract. This means that they temporarily cannot move. The result is a rejuvenated appearance because wrinkles are not as visible.

Preparing for Your Botox Treatment

Botox in Upper East Side is a non-surgical outpatient procedure. Before your treatment, Dr. Reitzen will discuss any allergies you have, your medical history, and if any current medications need to be adjusted. You should remove all makeup before your appointment. During your initial consultation, Dr. Reitzen will listen to your concerns and identify any specific areas where you would like to see creases eliminated.

During Your Botox Treatment

Dr. Reitzen will inject the Botox into the specific wrinkles and lines that need to be diminished. The procedure feels similar to a slight prick, and typically takes less than 20 minutes. Most of the time, individuals who receive this treatment can return to work following their appointment.

Recovery and Results After Botox

BOTOX does not require anesthesia, incisions, or scarring, so there’s no traditional recovery. However, there are some physical restrictions to be aware of. Patients can expect to return to work or school right away after their sessions at our Upper East Side office, but our practitioner will advise you to avoid strenuous activities for the first 24 hours and to take care not to rub, touch, massage, or disturb the treatment areas, as this can cause the BOTOX to migrate.

Common side effects include minor bruising and very slight discomfort that lasts 1-2 days. While rare, other side effects can include swelling, tiredness, headaches, dry eyes, allergic reactions, itching, or neck pain.

Overall, the benefits of Botox include diminished wrinkles and lines on the face. Most patients notice results between 5-14 days following treatment. The benefits of Botox typically last 3-6 months, with the majority of patients choosing to receive multiple treatments.

Does Insurance Cover Botox?

The cost of Botox depends on the specific changes that need to be made; therefore, the cost will be unique to each patient. Botox treatment is usually not covered by insurance, but we recommend contacting your provider to check and see if injections for medical reasons are covered under your policy.

Is it worth getting BOTOX at 40?

BOTOX is effective for patients of all ages. That said, patients should be aware that it is most effective against fine lines and less effective for sagging muscles.

What age is too late for BOTOX?

There is no upper age limit for BOTOX. Patients well into their 60s and older can undergo the treatments and enjoy the benefits they come with.

Do you age faster after BOTOX?

BOTOX will not accelerate the natural aging process. That said, patients who discontinue their BOTOX treatment will find that their wrinkles begin to form again.

Does BOTOX look worse as you age?

When BOTOX wears off, wrinkle formation resumes from where it left off. As such, patients will continue to age naturally, carrying on from where they were when they started treatment.

What are the disadvantages of BOTOX?

Some patients may notice pain or swelling at the injection sites. Other side effects include headaches, droopy eyelids, and excessive eye dryness.

What are the alternatives to BOTOX?

The most similar alternatives to BOTOX are dermal fillers, which are another type of injectable. Acupuncture, chemical peels, and facial creams can also be of benefit.

Will wrinkles come back worse after BOTOX?

This is a common misconception. BOTOX only temporarily freezes muscle activity, meaning that it will continue when treatments stop, and wrinkle formation will resume again.

Will my skin sag if I stop Botox?

No. Upon ceasing treatment, patients will find that their skin returns to the state that it was in prior to beginning BOTOX injections.
